Kanya D'Almeida, a Sri Lankan author, has won the Commonwealth Short Story Prize for 2021.

Kanya D'Almeida, 34, has been named the overall winner of the world's most prestigious literature prize.D'Almeida's win was revealed by the Commonwealth Foundation at an online award ceremony that included readings by Zambian novelist Mubanga Kalimamukwento, Sri Lankan actress Ranmali Mirchandani, British actress Lyndsey Marshal, Jamaican author Kei Miller, and Australian actress Francesca Savige.D'Almeida, from Colombo, Sri Lanka, is the first Sri Lankan to win the overall prize and the second from Asia.
