BASL calls Duminda Silva's pardon into question.

The BASL has requested that the President inform the BASL and the general public of the grounds used to select Duminda Silva for a pardon under Article 34 (1) of the Constitution and the reasons why Duminda Silva's case distinguished out among those currently serving prison sentences.

The BASL voiced its displeasure with the President's pardon of Duminda Silva, a prisoner convicted by a High Court of unlawful assembly and murder. The President was also asked if the Minister of Justice's recommendation was requested before Duminda Silva's pardon was granted, and if so, whether the Minister of Justice made such a recommendation.
