Interim order preventing PAYE tax on judges extended

 

Yesterday (Feb. 24) the Court of Appeal ordered to extend the interim order given to prevent the imposition of pay as you earn tax on judges' salaries until March 1, 2023.

The relevant order has been issued by the Appellate Court Chairman Justice N. Bandula Karunaratne and M. A. R. Marikar.

After considering a petition filed by an association of District Judges and Magistrates of Sri Lanka, the Court of Appeal on January 25 issued an interim order restraining the collection of taxes paid by judges to the Inland Revenue Department (IRD).
