Imported eggs not for general consumption - Agri. Minister

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says that Sri Lanka is allowed to import eggs, but these stocks are only available for the bakery industry.

He stated this last Thursday (February 16) in a discussion held at the Ministry of Agriculture when the attention was focused on the measures to be taken for egg import and livestock development.

Amaraweera emphasized that imported eggs will not be sold in stores for general consumption. He mentioned that this decision has been taken to prevent bird flu from entering the country.

Further, Amarweera Ministerial officials have also been instructed to quickly prepare a set of guidelines on how to use imported eggs for the bakery industry.
