Flights grounded after volcano erupts in Island

Flights grounded after volcano erupts in Island

A volcano in Island has erupted after 900 years and more than one thousand flights around Iceland’s capital Reykjavik have been grounded. The eruption seems to settle down and no harm to human life has been reported.

Red lava poured out initially and flowed across the surrounding valley creating a spectacular view.  As heavy rains came down the lava flow slowed and a blue cloud emerged over the volcano.

As the volcano is close to the famous blue lagoon geothermal Spa the surroundings may attract more tourists once everything settles down The area is mostly barrens land and there are no settlements close by.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office confirmed that hundreds of small earthquakes shook the area as the volcano erupted.
