During the robbery, a member of the criminal gang was beaten to death

A suspected member of an underworld gang who attempted to rob a house in the Mulleriyawa area has been beaten to death by residents of the area, reports say.

 

Police say that the deceased is a close associate of the notorious underworld leader Dineth Melon Mabula alias Uru Jua. Police said that the deceased was suspected to be a known criminal named 'Chathu', an associate of the underworld leader Uru Jua.

 

He was arrested and remanded in custody in connection with a murder and was reportedly released last month.

 

It is reported that the house he tried to rob is the house of another underworld leader, Sage Asitha Premathilaka alias 'Solta''s boyfriend.
