A decision has been taken to stop the promotion of oil palm cultivation

The Minister of Environment instructed the officials of the Central Environmental Authority to continue the decision taken not to promote oil palm cultivation in the country.

 

However, officials of the Central Environmental Authority said that no action could be taken to manage palm oil cultivation under the National Environmental Act.

 

They also said that the government has decided not to promote the cultivation of palm oil.

 

According to the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), environmentalists as well as various experts have commented on the depletion of groundwater, damage to water sources and the adverse effects of palm oil cultivation.

 

Therefore, there is a risk of groundwater depletion due to palm oil cultivation.
