Accordingly, the G.C.E (O/L) exam which is held in December will be held in August in future. The change is to enable students to obtain the first degree qualifications within a minimum time frame by minimizing the time spend for selection for the state universities.
A cabinet note said due to extended period spent for issuance of examination results for O/L and inauguration of A/L classes as well as the time spent for the selection of students for the state universities the ages of students when they complete school education and completing the University Education their ages are 19 -20 and 25 - 26 years respectively as observed.
The note said structural inconsistencies in these examination systems and the unnecessary administrative delays related to technical procedures have led to unnecessary delays in entering the employment market completing the higher education.
