Pakistan court suspends ex-PM Imran Khan’s conviction in state gifts case

Pakistan court suspends ex-PM Imran Khan’s conviction in state gifts case

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has had his conviction and three-year prison sentence suspended by a Pakistani court in the state gifts depository case.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered Khan's release on bail after he was convicted on August 5 for not disclosing gifts he received from foreign governments and leaders during his premiership between 2018 and 2022. Khan, also a cricketer-turned-politician, has faced over 100 cases since losing a confidence vote in parliament in April 2022.

He was jailed in Attock city and barred from contesting elections for five years. While the IHC's decision was in his favor, Khan's legal challenges are expected to continue, including his connection to the violence after his brief detention earlier this year.
