One of the world's largest floating solar panel farms has been unveiled in Singapore.

On Wednesday (14) , Singapore revealed one of the world's largest floating solar panel farms, spanning 45 football fields and generating enough electricity to run the island's five water treatment plants.

 

The project is part of the city-efforts state's to reach a goal of quadrupling solar energy generation by 2025 to help combat climate change in the land-scarce Southeast Asian city-state.

 

The 60 megawatt-peak solar photovoltaic (PV) farm was built by a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries atop a reservoir in western Singapore.

 

According to a joint statement by the firm and Singapore's national water agency PUB, this solar farm could assist to cut carbon emissions by around 32 kilotonnes yearly, which is equivalent to taking 7,000 cars off the road.
