Sprinter Nadeesha bags gold medal in 400m at Asian Athletics Championship

In an impressive display of athleticism, Sri Lankan sprinter Nadeesha Ramanayake claimed the gold medal in the Women's 400m event at the Asian Athletics Championship 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday (July 13).
The 28-year-old sprinter recorded a remarkable time of 52.61 seconds, securing first place in the event's finals. In the preceding Women's 400m Heats held on Wednesday (July 12), Ramanayake demonstrated her talent by finishing in first position with a time of 53.06 seconds.
Notably, Sri Lanka's performance in the Asian Athletics Championship was further enhanced by the achievements of Gayanthika Abeyratne and Nadeesha Lekamge.
Abeyratne secured a bronze medal in the women's 1,500-meter event, clocking in at 4 minutes and 14.39 seconds. Lekamge, on the other hand, earned a bronze medal in the women's javelin throw and set a new national record for Sri Lanka with an impressive distance of 60.93 meters.
Led by Abeyratne, the 13-member Sri Lankan athletic team embarked on their journey to Bangkok on July 9 to participate in the championship. The tournament, the Supachalasai National Stadium, commenced on July 12 and will continue until July 16.
The outstanding performances by Ramanayake, Abeyratne, and Lekamge reflect the talent and dedication of Sri Lankan athletes on the international stage.
