SLPP wants Prez to discuss 13A with religious leaders, Muslims

The ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has urged President and National Policies Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to hold discussions on implementing the 13th Amendment to the Constitution with politicians and other stakeholders, including Buddhist monks and religious leaders.
The SLPP General Secretary, Sagara Kariyawasam, emphasized the importance of engaging with various communities, including the Sinhala and Muslim communities and the Tamil community.
The President had previously stated his commitment to implement the 13th Amendment fully and has held discussions with political parties, particularly those representing the Tamil community.
However, the issue has also faced opposition from some Buddhist monks and religious leaders, with more than 100 monks protesting against the Amendment's implementation in February 2023.
