A safety reminder to April, 17 - from the Department of Meteorology

The Department of Meteorology had issued tomorrow’s (April 17) heat index advisory, warning the public of increased temperatures.
In some places including Eastern, North Central and North-Western provinces and in Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaituvu, Mannar, Monaragala and Hambantota districts, the heat index is rising to the caution level.
The heat index forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. The Meteorology Department generates it for the following day and the index is calculated using global numerical weather prediction model data.
The Meteorology Department has advised the public members to stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade as often as possible, limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade, and wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
