Veteran author Anula de Silva passes away at the age of 82

Anula de Silva, a distinguished Sri Lankan writer, translator, and journalist, passed away at 82. Born on January 27, 1941, in Ambalangoda, she significantly impacted Sri Lanka's literary and journalistic landscape. 

 

 

She began her career as a teacher before becoming a prolific writer, publishing her first novel, "Unmanthakayo", in 1964. Anula de Silva's contributions extended to Lake House, where she wrote for the "Mihira" children's newspaper, and later to Wijeya Newspapers as an editor for women's weeklies such as "Sirikatha" and "Vanitha Viththi." 

 

 

She focused on women's issues and personal development, utilizing various platforms, including books, radio programs, and newspapers. Her writing spanned over 125 books, including novels, translations, and children's books. 

 

 

Her remains will be honoured at the Jayaratne Funeral Parlour, with the final rites scheduled at Borella General Cemetery on August 14.
