Appeal Court President’s issue an isolated incident - Minister
The incident regarding the Appeal Court President Justice Bandula Karunaratne is an isolated incident and does not reflect the conduct of the entire judiciary, Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapaksa told Parliament today.
“Some members of Parliament did make comments on the Appeal Court President in the House on Wednesday and it has been reported in the media. This has disturbed those in the legal fraternity. However, this is not an attack on the judiciary by the legislature. The legal fraternity should take this matter into consideration,” the Minister said.
“However, one should note of a substantive motion to talk of judicial officers in Parliament. Impeachments have been brought against some judicial officers. Impeachment motions were brought against Chief Justice Nevil Samarakoon, Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva and Shirani Bandaranayake,” he noted.
