Over 100mm rain expected a bit early today

Over 100mm rain expected a bit early today

While expecting an enhancement of the prevailing showery weather condition, showers above 100mm will occur over most places in the island after 1 p.m., the forecasting division of the National Meteorological Centre said.

Accordingly, heavy showers will occur in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-Central Provinces and in the Puttalam and Mannar districts.

However, showers above 50mm are likely in the Eastern Province and in the Jaffna and Mullaitivu districts during the morning.

Misty conditions can be expected in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva Provinces during the morning.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas off the coast, extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai.

Showers will occur in other sea areas around the island, particularly during the afternoon or night. The wind speed will be a maximum of 25 Kmph in the north-easterly or variable direction.

The sea areas around the island will have slight and temporarily strong gusty winds, and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
