More than 100mm rains after 2 p.m today

Atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of afternoon rain, and heavy showers of about 100mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts after 2 p.m., the Forecasting Division of the National Meteorological Centre said.
Accordingly, misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva Provinces during the morning.
Therefore, the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast, extending from Pottuvil to Kankasanthurai via Trincomalee. Showers or thundershowers will occur in other sea areas around the island, particularly during the afternoon or night.
The winds will be south-easterly or variable in direction in the sea areas around the island, and the speed will be up to 30 kmph.
The sea areas around the island will be slightly rough.
