Handing over PCOL report to CID is an eye wash: Kavinda

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake handing over the report of the Presidential Commission which probed Easter Sunday attacks to the CID is an eye wash as it is not likely to do any good, an Opposition MP said.

 

Samagi Jana Balawegaya ( SJB) MP Dr. Kavinda Jayawardene told that handing over a public document to CID will not do any good. "The report was handed over to Attorney General by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Nothing came out of it. Then President Ranil Wickremesinghe handed it over to Bishops Conference. The report is in Parliament at the library. Therefore what good will it do now? " MP. Jayawardene questioned.

"President Dissanayake's act is just an eye wash," he said.

He noted that contradicting remarks are being made on the arrest of MP Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan. One minister said he was arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks. However, Minister Sunil Handunnetti has said Chandrakanthan (Pilleyan) was taken in connection with the abduction of a university Don. Why these contradictions? he also questioned.

Further, the MP said he hopes to travel to Vatican by June and meet official there including Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin to discuss what action needs to be taken on behalf of those who were directly affected by the Easter Sunday mayhem.
