Three Lankans nabbed with Kush, Hashish

Three Sri Lankan passengers were arrested while attempting to smuggle a stock of Kush and Hashish into the country, concealed in biscuit and chips bags, Customs Additional Director and Spokesman Sivali Arukgoda said.

He said the suspects had arrived in Sri Lanka from Bangkok on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-403. They were apprehended while trying to evade Customs checks.

Following investigations, Customs officers discovered 1.616 kilograms of Kush and 1.762 kilograms of Hashish, with an estimated street value of nearly Rs. 45 million.

Two of the suspects are residents of the Colombo area, while the third is from the Badulla area.

"The alertness of the officers of the Customs Narcotics Division led to the successful seizure of the consignment. This is considered one of the most significant arrests made by the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Division in recent times," the spokesman said.

Investigations into the suspects and the seized drugs are ongoing. The suspects and the narcotics will be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
