SL Navy arrests two suspects attempting to smuggle gold in Talaimannar

Two suspects were apprehended by the Sri Lanka Navy in Urumalei, Talaimannar, while attempting to smuggle over eight kilograms of gold to a foreign country via sea.
The suspects were arrested along with a traditional boat (Theppam) in connection with the incident.
The Sri Lanka Navy continues to maintain vigilant surveillance of the island's coastal areas, conducting regular patrols and search operations to prevent illegal activities, particularly the smuggling of goods via sea routes.
Based on credible information received by SLNS Thammanna, a search operation was carried out in the beach area of Urumalei. The suspects arrested during the operation were identified as residents of the Urumalei area.
The suspects, along with the seized gold and the traditional boat, were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Kankesanthurai for further legal action.
