A shooting during a vehicle inspection in the Akmeemana area

On Saturday, a shooting incident occurred involving the Akmeemana traffic police.

 

 

During a routine inspection, two individuals on a motorcycle were asked to stop on a side road. One of them escaped on the motorcycle, while the other attempted to throw a grenade at the police officers. 

 

 

In response, a police constable fired his weapon, injuring the 21-year-old suspect who was then taken to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. The police later arrested the 18-year-old suspect who had fled the scene. 

 

 

During the investigation, a parcel containing T56 bullets and a hand grenade of foreign origin was found at the crime scene.
