Quazi Judge arrested for accepting Rs. 200,000 bribe

A Quazi judge has been arrested on bribery charges after allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs. 200,000 bribe from a businessman in the Kandy area.

 

According to the Bribery Commission, the judge had promised to expedite a verdict in a divorce case filed by the businessman’s son before the Quazi Court, at the Kandy Court Complex. 

 

In exchange for the bribe, the judge had allegedly agreed to provide a copy of the verdict and the divorce certificate.

 

He was arrested by officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption at his Judge's office in Gelioya on Monday.

 

The suspect was to be produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court.
