Police recover stolen gold-plated model ship from Martin Wickramasinghe Foundation

The Cinnamon Gardens Police informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali that they have identified the suspect who stole a gold-plated model ship from the Martin Wickramasinghe Foundation Museum in Kurunduwatta.
The suspect, Jayakumar, a resident of Narahenpita, is currently in remand custody under an order by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court for drug-related charges.
During interrogation, when questioned about how he obtained money to fund his drug consumption, Jayakumar admitted to stealing the valuable artifact and selling it to an individual in Nugegoda for Rs. 7,000.
Following this revelation, the Cinnamon Gardens Police recovered the stolen model ship and produced it to court. They requested that the suspect be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on June 16 in connection with the theft.
The Magistrate granted the request and directed prison authorities to ensure the suspect is produced on the specified date. The court also instructed police to take steps to return the recovered artifact to the Martin Wickramasinghe Foundation.
