Police arrest gunman who chased, killed youth in Mt. Lavinia

The Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau has arrested the gunman involved in the recent fatal shooting in Mount Lavinia.

 

Police said the suspect, a 28-year-old former Sri Lanka Air Force personnel, was taken into custody at Vihara Mawatha in Kottawa. 

 

At the time of arrest, Police recovered a locally-made hand grenade, 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition and two motorcycle number plates.

 

He is accused of shooting at and killing a 19-year-old Dehiwala resident on May 5. The victim was gunned down by two unidentified individuals who arrived on a motorcycle.

 

Investigations have revealed that the arrested suspect was the shooter and is also linked to a previous shooting in Kadawatha.

 

Earlier, police arrested the motorcycle rider and two others accused of aiding and abetting the crime.

 

Police said all suspects connected to the incident have now been arrested. 

 

Investigations are being carried out under the direct supervision of Mount Lavinia Divisional SSP Prasanna Brahmanage.

 

The main suspect has been detained for 48 hours for further questioning.
