Man wanted in job scam arrested while trying to flee to Sri Lanka by ferry

A 37-year-old man from Kancheepuram district, wanted in multiple job fraud cases across Tamil Nadu, was arrested by customs officials at the Nagapattinam port while allegedly attempting to flee to Sri Lanka in a ferry by sea.
The accused, Kirubakaran of Prem Nagar, Pozhichalur, is a history sheeter accused of cheating several youth across the State by promising overseas job placements. Multiple police stations had registered cases against him for defrauding job aspirants of several crores of rupees.
One such case was registered by the Nagapattinam district crime branch after a complaint from Banumathi and others from Kallaraithottam and Uppalam Road, who alleged that Kirubakaran had taken ₹10.5 lakh from them under the pretext of securing jobs abroad.
The police had launched a search for Kirubakaran. On Sunday, he was spotted at the Nagapattinam port during a security check while attempting to leave for Sri Lanka by ferry. Customs officials detained him and handed him over to the Nagapattinam Town Police, who later transferred him to the district crime branch for investigation.
