No official ID cards for postal voting - Elections Commissioner General

Elections Commissioner General Saman Sri Rathnayaka said that official ID cards will not be permitted for use when casting postal votes, due to issues that have arisen in the past, despite this option being previously allowed.

As a result, it is now mandatory to present an accepted form of identification to cast the postal vote for the Local Government Elections scheduled for May 6, he said.

Accepted documents include:

National Identity Card

Valid Driving License

Valid Passport

Temporary Identity Card issued by the Election Commission

Letter of Confirmation issued by the Department of Registration of Persons (in lieu of a National Identity Card)

Any of the above documents will be accepted for identification when voting by post.
