President demoted war heroes to ordinary soldiers - Namal

While difficultly paying tribute to the war heroes, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake reduced the war heroes to ordinary soldiers, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said.
Speaking to the media after the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) commemoration event held this morning at the National War Heroes' Monument, he said he could not understand how a victory after 30 years of war could be compared to a natural disaster.
“The freedom and peace gained after ending a 30-year war cannot be equated to a landslide after heavy rains. It seems he has twisted both stories. Either way, we will continue to give the war heroes the honour they deserve and not wait for War Heroes’ Day to do so,” MP Namal Rajapaksa said.
“Even though President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and his government never had to face a war, our country endured one of the world’s deadliest terrorist groups. It was under the leadership of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa that terrorism was defeated. As wrongly claimed by the President, the war did not start during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s tenure,” he added.
He further stated that war heroes should never be cursed, regardless of who ended the war.
“When we look at the reports of the Batalanda detention centre, it is clear that more harm was inflicted on war heroes there than even during the war,” MP Namal Rajapaksa said.
