Valvettithurai mayor dies of Covid infection

Jaffna Valvettithurai Mayor Konalingam Karunanandarasa, who was admitted to the Point Pedro Manditai Hospital in Jaffna on the 9th for treatment of a covid infection, has died this morning.

The 76-year-old has been elected to the Municipal Council representing the Tamil National Alliance. The mayor died of a heart attack caused by covid.

Public health inspectors said they had taken steps to conduct PCR and rapid antigen tests on the deceased's relatives and all city council officials.
