Tourism associations protest against Sigiryia housing

Several tourist associations have protested against an ultra-modern housing complex that s been put up in close vicinity to the Sigiriya fortress. About 30 percent of the houses have been sold and tourist associations are worried that the construction of something modern close to a world heritage site may harm the visual esthetics of the surroundings.

 

The builders say that they have received all the approovals from the Yahapalanaya government in 2017. The complex is located just 1.9 km from the Pothana archaeological site which is a cave temple cluster west to the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya.
