Sri Lankan envoy meets Indian ministers seeking support for economic recovery

Sri Lanka High Commissioner Milind Moragoda on Tuesday met Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss India's support for the island's economic recovery, including expanding bilateral trade and using the rupee for trade settlements.
India last year provided nearly $4 billion in economic assistance to Sri Lanka during an unprecedented economic crisis, including cash transfers and lines of credit for emergency purchases of food, medicine and fuel.
New Delhi also took the lead in providing guarantees to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to enable Colombo to access a $2.9 billion bailout package.
