Sri Lanka was the first country in South Asia to implement a Submarine Cable Protection and Resilience Framework.

A Submarine Cable Protection and a Resilience Framework were launched by Sri Lanka last week.
Sri Lanka is the first country in Asia to develop such a framework, thanks to the tremendous support of the Japanese government through the UNODC's Global Maritime Crimes Program (GMCP).
The framework and supporting legislations, which are now being drafted, would help to improve Sri Lanka's overall image by positioning the country as a maritime and logistical hub in the Indian Ocean.
Sri Lanka's experience in the process will be shared with the Indian Ocean Rim Association's Member States, with Sri Lanka taking on the role of Vice-Chair in 2021 and then Chair in 2023-2025.
