Samurdhi officers complain of attacks

Samurdhi officers complain that they are at the receiving end of assaults made by angry people who have been excluded from the process and don’t revive benefits.
Samurdhi Development Officers Union Secretary Chamara Madduma-Kaluge said those who have not received the 5,000 the allowance are confused as to why they have not received the allowance this time although they had received the allowance on previous occasions.

 

The wife of a Samurdhi officer attached to Kudalunuka area in the Rideemaliyedda Divisional Secretariat was assaulted with bricks   by a woman demand the Rs. 5,000 allowance. Incidents have been reported in Hiriwala,and  Pallewelela, A new circular has been issued and according to that circular has been reduced from ten to seven and many have been left out without prior warning.

 

“Some people come  a long distance, only to be told that they do not qualify for inclusion on the list said Madduma-Kaluge . The Director-General of the Department of Samurdhi Development, Bandula Tilakasiri said that those on the appeal list were still being processed.
