SL's indigenous leader files petition against land allocation

Leader of the indigenous vedda community in Sri Lanka, Uru Warige Wannila Aththo and the Centre for Environmental Justice (CEJ) have filed a petition before the Court of Appeal against the acquisition of their heritage land for maize cultivation.
The Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka, the Director General of the Department of Wildlife Conservation, Wildlife Minister C.B. Ratnayake and the Secretary to the ministry are among the respondents named in the petition.
They added that the lands seized by the Mahaweli Development Department are used for their day to day livelihoods and to obtain food for their survival.
