NCPA arrests suspect for impregnating a 15-year-old girl

The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has arrested an individual who had fled after impregnating a 15-year-old girl.

 

The victim is said to have met the said individual  in June 2019 on her way to her uncle’s residence in Kandy due to a dispute with her parents.

 

The two are said to have started an affair since then.

 

Investigations have revealed that following one month of their affair, the suspect had brought the girl to Delgoda, where they had lived together as a married couple for a few days.

 

The girl, who was thereafter abandoned by the suspect at the Pettah Bus Station, had been admitted to the hospital where she had delivered a baby girl.

 

Doctors at the Hospital had lodged a complaint to the NCPA in relation to this. 

 

The investigations have been launched following the above and the suspect was identified as a 22-year-old who works at a fruit shop at the Munneswaram Temple in Chilaw. 

 

According to the sources, the youth has been remanded over the incident.
