Mangala Samaraweera accuses SJB for playing the "race card" in parliament

Former United National Party MP Mangala Samaraweera today accused the Samagi Jana Balawegaya led opposition of playing the “race card’ in Parliament.

 

“Sad that the opposition in Parliament is now playing the ‘race card’ like the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in opposition earlier’, he said.

 

The former Minister said Sri Lanka needs an alternative vision and not a duplicate of the present regime’s xenophobic and racist / majoritarian policies.

 

Former MP Samaraweera made the statement in response to the recent objections raised by the Opposition in Parliament over MP A.L.M. Athaullah’s attire during Parliament proceedings.

 

Addressing Parliament, SJB MP S.M. Marikkar stated that Athaullah was dressed in an attire suitable for the Afghanistan and Pakistan Parliaments and not Sri Lanka.
