MT New Diamond oil tanker owners agree to settle the full claim for Rs.442 million

The owners of the distressed MT New Diamond oil tanker have informed the Attorney General. Dappula de Livera that they agree to settle the full claim of Rs. 442 Million, stated State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne.
The said crude oil tanker caught fire, 38 nautical miles off Sangamankanda Point. east of Sri Lankan seas on September 3, where the fire was contained jointly by the efforts of Sri Lanka Navy, Air Force, Coast Guards and other international assistance.
As per the estimated cost incurred by Sri Lanka, Attorney General Dappula de Livera requested an initial compensation of Rs. 340 million and a further claim of Rs.100 Million from the owners of the oil tanker.
