First consignment of COVISHIELD vaccines arrives in SL - Vaccination to begin in 6 hospitals

The first consignment with 500,000 doses of  Oxford-AstraZeneca’s COVISHIELD Covid-19 vaccines from India arrived in Sri Lanka in a special flight chartered by Air India (AI 281),  on  January 28 (today).

 

As per the sources, the vaccination programme will commence at 6 hospitals in the country, from tomorrow. 

 

The Health Services Deputy Director General Dr. Hemantha Herath stated that selected staff at the Colombo National Hospital, Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Homagama Base Hospital, Colombo East Base Hospital, and the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) in Angoda will be vaccinated.

 

The donation of the vaccine consignment to Sri Lanka took place  under Government of India’s “Vaccine Maitri” (Vaccine Friendship) initiative.
