Express Pearl fire kills several sea creatures

Deputy Solicitor General Madhava Tennakoon, appearing for the CID, told the court that 473 sea creatures had died when the Express Pearl caught fire.


The bodies of 417 dead sea turtles, 48 ​​dolphins and eight whales have been dumped on the beach.


Mr. Madhava Tennakoon further stated that the water samples near the ship that caught fire were sent to the Government Analyst and it was revealed that it contained ingredients containing petroleum.


Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrema ordered that the case be re-called on August 18.
