Eight arrested for collecting debris from the vessel

Eight persons were arrested for collecting the debris on the shore which were washed away from the ' MV X-Press' vessel, viloating the quarantine rules.

Despite the strict warns imposed against touching and collecting the toxic and poisonous materials reaching the shores from the burning vessel, a considerable crowd had gathered to the shore to collect the debris.

Metals scraps, plastics and snacks were found among the debris along  the shores of Negombo in the areas such  as Ja- Ela, Dunagahapitiya, Kepumgoda and Seththappaduwa.

Inspite of the heavy load of dry chemical powder around 850kg discharged by the SLAF, the fire and the smoke continuously rage from the vessel  according to the states of authorities.
