The last moments of Wishma and beyond

The last moments of Wishma and beyond

Wishma dreamed to be an English teacher but dreams were all shattered as the Japanese authorities ignored medical recommendations. A doctor recommended: “If (medicine) cannot be administered orally, she should receive an IV drip and be hospitalized.” But no action was taken and now as the facts are emerging how a helpless girl died all alone in a cell.

The records show instructions from the doctor contradict the content of the interim report, which says no recommendation for hospitalization was made At around 11 a.m. Wishma started struggling to breathe and by  1.30 p.m. she passed away after struggling with pain without treatment .

Despite  24/7 CCTV surveillance, the officers spotted her lifeless body only at After 2 p.m Signs of neglect and disgraceful treatment are all over. Wishma lost more than 19 kg during the detention period but that did not bother any of the officials.

She was diagnosed with suspected Oesophagitis,( The oesophagus is part of the digestive system and it connects the mouth to the stomach) but the focus of treatment was mental health. Activist Yasunori Matsuihad had written to the officials multiple times regarding Wishma’s deteriorating health.

“We had filed requests for her to be hospitalized and put on an IV drip, but the immigration bureau just kept saying she was fine. I am forced to say they left her to die.” Matsui said. She even vomited blood but that would not move the officials to take her to hospital. On the night of January 28, Wishma vomited blood and requested the officials at the facility to take her to a hospital. But, they didn’t.
