Committee to Analyze Damage Caused by Shipping Fuel

During a recent discussion at the Ministry of Environment, the Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera stated that a committee will be appointed to inquire into the polluted water released illegally by ships and the damage caused by furnace oil during shipping.
He said that one liter of dirty water pollutes 10,000 liters of clean water and when it is removed from the fuel, the water is released directly into rivers and streams.
This committee has been appointed by Minister Amaraweera to study the environmental issues that may arise due to this and to submit reports to the Cabinet.
