Colombo National hospital doctor's illicit affair ends life of nurse

An illicit love affair by a Colombo National hospital doctor with  a married nurse working under him has ended with the nurse taking his life,  a coroner’s court inquiry has been told.

 

The 32 year old nurse from Kadugannwa who had married few years back had been attached to the ward under the doctor concerned. The doctor also who was married is reported to coaxed the young nurse to start an affairs, despite her strong refusal initially.

 

However, few months later the she had given into the pressure from the doctor and started an extra-marital affair where they had visited several locations and spent time together.

 

Recently the husband of the nurse, had checked her phone and found pictures of his wife with another person along with the text messages they had exchanged.

 

On questioning her, she had confessed about the affair and the husband had planned to divorce her. The nurse is reported to have returned to her workplace and injected herself with a highly toxic medicine which is believed to left her dead instantly. She was found dead by a colleague of her.

 

However, the coroner’s court has returned an open verdict pending further investigations.
