Cardinal says comments were not aimed at a political party

Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has today said that his remarks over the weekend claiming that the Easter Sunday attacks were carried out to strengthen political power on parties has been misunderstood by the media.

 

“I wasn’t referring to any political force. I was talking about Wahhabism and how it might be a tool used by certain powerful countries,” he told a press conference today afternoon in Colombo.

 

On Sunday he claimed the attacks in order to strengthen their power.

 

“I wasn’t referring to any local political forces or leaders,” he commented when he was questioned about his comments.
