Bonds between Vietnam and SL are anticipated to enhance organic farming, IT investments, and tourism.

Ho Thi Thanh Truc, the Vietnamese ambassador in Colombo, made a personal visit to State Minister of Regional Cooperation Tharaka Balasuriya at the Foreign Ministry yesterday.

 

While emphasizing the two nations' long-standing bilateral ties, State Minister Balasuriya stated that the government of Sri Lanka is primarily focused on economic development, tourism, and strengthening trade relationships with Southeast Asian countries.

 

During the discussion, Ambassador Truc described the steps taken by the Vietnamese government to implement organic farming in the country and showed a willingness to share her country's experience with Sri Lanka. An MOU on Agricultural Development Cooperation between the two countries is currently in full effect.

 

Furthermore, State Minister Balasuriya examined the potential of strengthening links between Sri Lanka and Vietnam in the IT industry, and decided to hold a road show in Colombo Port City where Viet Nam investors may invest in areas such as IT and Software.

 

Explaining the possibilities of increasing tourist arrivals from Vietnam, State Minister Balasuriya stated that programs on Sri Lanka tourism in Vietnamese language, which will be broadcast on social media, might be used to attract visitors from Vietnam. In response, Viet Nam's Ambassador Truc emphasized the need of creating direct air connectivity between Sri Lanka and Vietnam in order to promote tourism.
