A new mechanism to check coconut sizes and set control prices announced

Consumer Affairs Authority Chairman and retired Major General D.M.S. Dissanayake stated that the district offices had been provided with instructions to measure the circumference of coconuts to decide if they were being sold at the controlled prices gazetted on September 25.
The Consumer Affairs Authority officers with the devised measuring gadgets will be deployed to assess the sizes of coconuts, with the persuit of enforcing the gazette notification issued on price control.
According to the gazette notification, a coconut possessing a circumference of 13 inches and above can be sold at a maximum price of Rs 70, a coconut between 12 to 13 inch circumferance at Rs 65 and a coconut below 12-inch circumference at Rs 60.
