A drastic surge in SL's maternal deaths during the Covid-19 global pandemic - UN report

According to a UN report titled "Direct and Indirect Effects of Covid-19 Pandemic and Response in South Asia"  that focused on Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, about 239,000 maternal and child deaths have been reported in South Asia, owing to the disruption in healthcare services fueled by the Covid-19 global pandemic. 

 

The report also discovered that women, children and adolescents were affected the most and South Asia ia has reported about 13 million cases of coronavirus and over 186,000 deaths up to date.
