44 Coronavirus deaths on a day - Central Bank  for  selective lockdowns

Sri Lanka reported 44 Coronavirus deaths on May 21 and deaths were in the 30s last week. The country identified 3,547 patients on May 21  and now the medical professionals including State minister Sudarshini Fernando Pulle are suggesting that Sri Lanka should go for a 14- day lockdown without a break in the middle to stop the Coronavirus pandemic from spiraling further.

 

“All government hospitals have been filled with Covid patients as well as ICUs,” Sri Lanka Medical Association, President, Doctor Padma Gunaratne said to the media.

 

Meanwhile, Central Bank Governor W D Lakshman said that   Sri Lanka’s third Coronavirus wave will hit the economy less than the earlier two due to selective lockdowns, a vaccination drive, and the firms and workers getting used to working from home, Central Bank Governor W D Lakshman said.
