SJB MP calls to close Parliament after MP tested COVID 19 positive

There was suspense in Parliament during the debate of the Port City Commission bill when a SJB member called for the closure of Parliament after a member was tested positive for COVID-19.
This was after SJB member Hector Appuhamy questioned from the presiding member that there were reports about an MP being infected with COVID-19 and if it was accurate. He said if that was the case Parliament sittings should be suspended.
The member presiding at the time was government member, Weerasumana Dissanayake who initially said there were no reports, but few minutes later confirmed that Nuwara Eliya district member Maruthapandi Rameshwaram was infected.
However, he said there was no requirement to postpone the sittings as the particular MP had not come to Parliament for the last 10 days. In the event that the member had attended the sittings this week, the government may have been forced to close parliament as several institutions have been closed down after detection COVID19 positive cases had been identified.
