Boy who survived Thai cave rescue dies in UK

Duangpetch Promthep, one of 12 boys rescued from a Thai cave in 2018, has died in the UK.

The 17-year-old was found unconscious in his hostel in Leicestershire on Sunday and taken to hospital, where he died on Tuesday, the BBC was told.

He has been admitted to a football academy in the UK since late last year.

His thin but smiling face caught in a diver's light after the boys were found in the cave is one of the most memorable photos from the rescue.

In August last year, his teammates were delighted when Promthep, known as Dom, announced on Instagram that he had won a scholarship to join the Brook House College Football Academy in Market Harborough.
