Grade 9 Life skills : World of Work - Part 1

Nelson Mandela once said; “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. It is essential that a person receives sound education and it basically aims at molding responsible citizens who will ensure their positive contribution towards social development. When an individual steps out of school, it is important that he or she is equipped with sufficient insights in to the world of work. That is, they should be properly guided when in school, in order to be successful in life both personally and professionally. Thus, the academic curriculum at schools must include the required facilities for the above and eventually it will result in individuals who have been directed properly in relation to the selection of jobs and the relevant qualifications that should be completed as a requirement of those jobs.

 

Therefore, it is quite significant that one is aware about the available career paths, one’s skills, the preparation of curriculum vitae or resumes, inculcation and development of skills of facing job interviews, inculcation of efficiency and mutual cooperation at work, the significance of work-life balance, proper time and financial management thoroughly as he/she steps out to the world of work. Today, it is quite competitive when it comes to jobs that are available in the world of work. Thus, it is essential that one is well prepared to face the challenges with confidence that will further support him/her to triumph in the world of work. It is important that you gain a proper understanding about your attributes, skills, qualities, right from your childhood. You must know your strengths and your weak points as well.

 

You can be equipped with a good awareness about yourself and this will help you to make a smooth choice upon the job or the carrier that best suits you. Thus, you can maintain a personal file from your childhood itself and keep it regularly updated. It will support the development of your skill set further and boost your self-confidence. Information that must be included in a personal file are personal information, personal qualities, personal skills, personal behavior, and experience at / outside the school.
